As a freelance writer, who works solely from home, I have learned a bit about this exciting, yet sometimes difficult process. Just to be clear, I do have a bachelor's degree, but don't think you HAVE to have a college degree to successfully work from home. A great deal depends on the types of writing you want to do and how much you're willing to work.

First of all, I've NEVER spent any money to start a writing job or gig from home. Heck you shouldn't have to! Imagine if you went in for a job interview and they charged you 50 bucks to get started. You'd leave; RIGHT? Therefore I don't think you should have to fork out cash to begin writing from home to make good money. However, here are some freelance writer tips that may assist you!

1) Think about the area(s) of writing you enjoy and are good at.

2) Take full advantage of websites like Craigslist. DON'T merely click on the link for your town or city. Check out all writing jobs and writing gigs under all cities, states, ect... Oodles of these at-home writing opportunities are solely online. It doesn't matter where you're located!

3) Take a peek at helpful freelance writing job websites. These list new writing opportunities daily and they're FREE to check out.

4) Check out Morning
Coffee
, which updates new freelance writing opportunities each week.

5) Start your own blog for FREE with websites like Blogger.com. You can blog as much as you like.

6) Find new freelance writing gigs on Wahm. This is yet another FREE website for writers.

7) Take advantage of writing communities like PrintNpost. You're likely to get more traffic faster when blogging with numerous other writers.

8) Motivate yourself daily! This is not only necessary for writing at home, but for living as well.

9) Don't settle for any old wage! There are freelance writing jobs and gigs out there that don't pay hardly anything (5 dollars for an hour of work, ect...). This is sad and ridiculous. While you may have to settle on lower wages in the beginning, don't sacrifice your pride and work for pennies. Writing is a JOB and obviously you need to make a living. Just to give you an example, I began my first freelance writing gig out of college at $24 an hour, working from home. While you may not make this right off the bat, you DO deserve a real wage! Consider what minimum wage is in your area. Initially you should at least be making that. Serious employers WILL pay well for quality writing! In the end it's crucial to remember folks get what they pay for. Write on!!!
